|Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire with In Full Swing:|
Do It Their Way - A Night of Jazz
Canberra’s Gay and Lesbian Qwire along is proud to be collaborating with In Full Swing to present a one night only concert. The event begins at 6:30pm on Saturday 27th June at the Hellenic Club in Woden.
The concert promotes “Connections”, what better way to reach out than by holding a combined concert between two community music organisations. The Qwire contains over 80 members and will be joined by In Full Swing, a 20 piece big band that has been playing in and around Canberra for over 20 years. Together we will be presenting a night of jazz featuring timeless songs such as Somebody to Love, Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Feeling Good, My Way and many more.
The evening will commence with a sit down dinner followed by the main performance to an expected audience of between 400 and 500 people. Qwire and In Full Swing will fill the stage and your hearts, there will also be a visual dance spectacular by Canberra’s very own, Swing Katz. Show only ticket options also available for those wishing to just come along for the music.
Leonard Weiss took over as Musical Director in February 2014. Under Leonard’s direction, the Qwire has enjoyed continued success and has tackled new challenges through an array of classical pieces. Leonard is also the Musical Director of the Echo Voices Community Choir and Assistant Musical Director of Maruki Community Choir.
Now in its 22nd year, Canberra Qwire continues to promote understanding and awareness for the city’s LGBTI community through music. Through the support of the Canberra Community, Qwire has grown from humble beginnings of just seven members to one of Canberra’s leading community choirs with over 80 singers from all ages and walks of life. Qwire has a varied repertoire and public concert schedule, including performances for AIDS benefits, Canberra’s SpringOUT festival and recent participation in the Various Voices Choral Festival in Dublin, Ireland.
